I also pay taxes for the regulatory systems of the governmet such as the FDA, so that my quality of life is upheld. I do not pay taxes to have the government give that money to someone who hasn't earned it. These government programs you mentioned, FDA, public schools, are things that the government should provide, because they cannot be provided by each and every person. Provide things that cannot be provided by each citizen, such as the roads, police, fire department. Lastly is an impartial arbiter between two parties, the judicial system.
