I'm with Lucky on that, too. Having lived in a world myself (for too long) where my wings were "clipped" I would happilly give up my life for the pure magical adventure of flying...even if only to fly for a short while.

I like Lucky's post. He accepted the assignment and spoke for the sparrow. His sparrow says, "Thank you, God, for making a wild world and me wild in it."

Expending thought on such an unfortunate accident does nothing since no remedy or restoration can be contrived, even by an allegedly omnipotent critter as the ancient hurler of thunderbolts.

Thank you, God, for giving me the freedom to fly where my heart desired. I could never have been happy in a world where I was tethered to a puppet master.

Life may be long or life may be short, but life is sweetest when we live it on our own terms. Thank you, God, for letting me live it on my own terms.

sparrow speak:

hey i've seen others flew down and smacked to its death!
i knew it would come to me sometimes, too,
the question is not god-yes, or god-no,
but something quite simple, did i throw up
the morning breakfast of staled french-bread
or did i screeched, or did i just whimpered???
death is a simple matter and i think the faster
it dealt you the blow the better, no-thought
no-mind is better than the thought of god!!
and i know you'd not know that until it hits you!!

You do have a poet in you! The problem is that you are still trying to blame a god you don't believe in for the misery of the world. That is the small straw god you have created in order to rail against him! Years ago I also wrote a poem about a sparrow:

Even the Sparrow

Even the sparrow - born high on the winds of eternity
as so many that have gone before,
yearns to find a greater tranquillity -
an offering of the Shepherd's grace.

Even the sparrow - lost as a stray in the wilderness,
seeks direction for his journey
and peace as his destination.

Even the sparrow is lifted high on mighty wings
as the winds of doubt subside.
