Horace’s New Year Word Contest

Inspired by his long meditative practice (called Scrabble), Horace has created a new word for a New Year.  Let’s see, that’s J-8, A-1, well, you figure it out.  But what does it mean?

So, that’s our contest.  What does it mean?  Don’t forget etymology and pithy phrases.   Even better, can you draw it?   Wonderful and mysterious prizes, yet to be determined.

Colleen contributes this rare portrait.  Recent scholarship suggests it is none other than Benny Goodduck.

It is a special pleasure to welcome Special Guest Artist Helen Gaims.  Helen, take it away:

Can we cheat and consult a Scrabble dictionary???

The only guess right now: Long extinct, argyle pattern hide and armadillo-like body, relative of the also long extinct plotzquark

  2. SaffersBrain says:

Wait! I’m confused. I thought a plotzquark was a subatomic particle that has gotten so aggravated, it’s about to explode.

  3. Angela says:

Unfortunately it’s not a valid Scrabble word because it’s a brand name. It was a brand of crackers sold at concert halls in the late 20s, with a little cartoon mascot of a grinning black duck holding its hands up with fingers splayed. I can’t find an image on Google, but it’s a little too offensive for me to want to try drawing it myself.

Well, of course it’s that special, sultry, brazen, kinda moody yet spunky “attitude” that some of us display with flair, while feeling quite full of ourselves after an especially satisfying personal victory or accomplishment (that surprised even ourselves). “And there she was, all aglow, exuding jazquax out of every pore of her confident and now proud goddess-like womanbody.”
